Ghana's Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has started a round of consultations with key government ministries as officials lay the groundwork for the administration's New Economy transformational programme.
Dr Forson, joined by his deputy, the Finance Ministry's Chief Director, and other senior officials, met with the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, along with her ministry's team.
The meeting is part of a broader push to align government departments ahead of the programme's rollout.
Officials describe the initiative as a shift in national economic strategy — moving from stabilisation toward a phase focused on job creation, wealth generation, and long-term growth. Speaking during the recent presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review, Dr Forson framed the transition as the next stage of the country's economic recovery, arguing that macroeconomic stability was a precondition rather than an end goal and that the government's focus is now shifting to building an economy driven by domestic production and job creation.
President John Dramani Mahama has already signaled the scale of the plan, confirming it will channel a US$10 billion investment into priority sectors of the economy.
