AngloGold Ashanti Donates GH¢445,000 to Support Burma Camp Redevelopment Project

AngloGold Ashanti has donated GH¢445,000 to the Ghana Armed Forces to support the Burma Camp Redevelopment Project, an initiative aimed at addressing the military's longstanding accommodation deficit and improving living conditions for personnel. The donation was received by the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lt Gen William Agyapong, during a courtesy visit by an AngloGold Ashanti delegation

Accra, Ghana — September 2026: AngloGold Ashanti has donated GH¢445,000 to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in support of its self-help housing initiative, the Burma Camp Redevelopment Project.

The donation was received by the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, during a courtesy visit by a delegation from AngloGold Ashanti.

 

Supporting military housing development

The contribution forms part of ongoing efforts to mobilise resources for the redevelopment of accommodation facilities at Burma Camp and address the Ghana Armed Forces' longstanding housing needs.

The Burma Camp Redevelopment Project is a self-help initiative of the Ghana Armed Forces aimed at improving accommodation and living conditions for military personnel.

 

AngloGold Ashanti's contribution highlights the potential for stronger public-private sector collaboration in supporting strategic infrastructure and welfare initiatives for Ghana's security institutions.

 

The donation comes at a time when corporate Ghana and other private-sector stakeholders are being encouraged to support initiatives that improve the welfare and working conditions of personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Contributions from companies and other stakeholders can play an important role in supplementing institutional resources for projects that have a direct impact on personnel welfare and national infrastructure.

The support from AngloGold Ashanti follows other corporate contributions towards the Burma Camp Redevelopment Project, reflecting growing private-sector interest in supporting the initiative.

 

The Ghana Armed Forces has indicated that resources mobilised for the project will contribute towards addressing the accommodation deficit and improving residential facilities for military personnel.
