The African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) and the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) are advancing preparations for the 33rd ARSO General Assembly and Golden Jubilee Celebrations, which Ghana is expected to host in 2027. ARSO Secretary-General Dr. Hermogène Nsengimana met with GSA Director-General Prof. George Agyei and management to review preparations and strengthen collaboration ahead of the continental event.
Accra, Ghana — September 2026: The Secretary-General of the African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO), Dr. Hermogène Nsengimana, has held discussions with the Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Prof. George Agyei, as preparations intensify for the upcoming 33rd ARSO General Assembly and Golden Jubilee Celebrations, which Ghana is scheduled to host in 2027.
Dr. Nsengimana led an ARSO delegation to meet with Prof. Agyei and members of the GSA management team on 9 September 2026 to discuss preparations for the major continental standards event.
Ghana prepares to host Africa's standards community
During the engagement, Dr. Nsengimana expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and commended Prof. Agyei for his leadership and the achievements of the Ghana Standards Authority.
The ARSO Secretary-General also congratulated the GSA team on the progress made towards preparations and expressed his expectation of continued collaboration and engagement to ensure the successful organisation of the General Assembly.
The 33rd ARSO General Assembly is expected to bring together standards organisations and stakeholders from across Africa, providing a platform for discussions on standardisation, quality infrastructure, trade and industrial development across the continent.
GSA assures ARSO of readiness
Prof. George Agyei assured the ARSO Secretary-General of the GSA's readiness to host the continental gathering and provide the necessary support for what will be a significant occasion for Ghana and Africa's standardisation community.
He noted that preparations were underway to engage senior government officials to support the organisation of the Assembly and ensure that Ghana successfully hosts the event.
The planned General Assembly and Golden Jubilee celebrations are expected to further highlight the importance of African standardisation and conformity assessment in facilitating intra-African trade, strengthening industrial competitiveness and supporting economic integration.
The event will also provide Ghana with an opportunity to showcase its standards and quality infrastructure capabilities while strengthening engagement with standards bodies and industry stakeholders across the continent.
