MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: GAF Engineers Complete 175.6km Accra–Kumasi Expressway Right-of-Way Clearing

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has successfully completed the clearing of the 175.6-kilometre right-of-way for the Accra–Kumasi Expressway, accomplishing the assignment in 19 weeks, one week ahead of the original 20-week target.
The achievement marks a significant milestone in the preparatory phase of one of Ghana's most important strategic infrastructure projects and demonstrates the professionalism, discipline and engineering capabilities of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Announcing the successful completion of the assignment, the Minister for Defence, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, declared:
“Mission accomplished.”
The Minister noted that the completion of the 175.6-kilometre corridor brings Ghana another important step closer to the commencement of construction works on the Accra–Kumasi Expressway.
The right-of-way clearing exercise required the deployment of specialised GAF engineering personnel, heavy equipment, logistical resources and coordinated field operations along the entire corridor.
The Ghana Armed Forces had initially been given a 20-week target to complete the assignment. Completing the work in 19 weeks represents a demonstration of effective planning, teamwork and disciplined execution.
The engineering teams worked across challenging terrain and through difficult field conditions while engaging communities and traditional authorities along the corridor.
The accomplishment provides another example of the important role that the Ghana Armed Forces can play in supporting national development through its specialised technical and engineering capabilities.
The successful completion of the assignment reflects cooperation between key institutions of government.
The Minister for Defence commended Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways; Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister for Finance; and the Ghana Armed Forces engineering teams for their commitment, dedication and teamwork in advancing the project.
The Roads and Highways Ministry has previously highlighted the important role being played by the GAF in the initial preparation of the expressway corridor.
The collaboration demonstrates how government institutions and specialised national capabilities can work together to deliver important milestones on major infrastructure programmes.
The Accra–Kumasi Expressway is expected to become one of Ghana's most significant transport corridors.
Connecting Greater Accra, Eastern and Ashanti Regions, the proposed expressway is intended to improve the movement of people and goods between Ghana's major economic centres.
The project is also expected to improve road safety, reduce congestion, shorten travel times and enhance the efficiency of transportation and logistics.
Government has identified the Accra–Kumasi Expressway as a flagship project under the Big Push Infrastructure Programme.
The successful completion of the assignment highlights an important dimension of modern defence capability.
