Ghana buying Cocoa Beans from Neighboring Countries
Ghana is the world's second-largest producer of cocoa beans, a commodity that is the core ingredient in chocolate, a global snack. It is a major producer of gold and cocoa and has one of the continent’s highest gross domestic products (GDP) per head in the past.
However, the country is now in an economic crisis to an extend that, once leading cocoa producing country, can no more supply processing companies with raw cocoa beans than to import them from Nigeria and Code D’Ivoire. The country has been experiencing a consistent reduction in annual crop output in the last couple of years, attributed to illegal gold mining, among others.
Great opportunity for job creation in the agriculture sector yet sold all our farming land to galamsey whilst youth in the country have no job to do.
Our land is rich, our people resourceful and with the power of technology we can revolutionize our Agricultural and fishing industries.
The GSS clearly shows that the numerous government youth employment interventions and initiatives, such as NABCO, YouStart and YEA, among many others, have failed to sustainably address the youth unemployment situation in the country.
We need our youth to return to farming and bring their energy and innovation to the farms
That is why the 24-hour economy, proposed by former President John Mahama, comes in handy to help address undoubtedly the biggest economic and security challenge that is bedeviling the country; it has the potential to reduce the growing unemployment situation in the country and boost agriculture sector.
