2024 Election: Key Policies Announced by John Mahama, Presidential Candidate of NDC
Former president and flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has announced a gist of his priorities and promises to Ghanaians. In a document submitted by Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of (NDC) it is highlighted that, the policy announced is all about building a sustainable society with OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL.
Through a number of tax exemptions, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) will be able to plough back their profits to expand and employ more youth
The outline of the policies are,
- Create a 24-hour economy with 3 work shift system to optimize job creation and productivity
- Create decent jobs through the promotion of public and private partnerships in the construction and manufacturing, agricultural, forestry and fisheries
- National employment centers will be established in all regions of the country as an avenue for employing youth. Businesses that employ applicants from the database will receive tax breaks to encourage more employers
- Invest $10 billion under the Big Push Initiative over 5 years to accelerate infrastructure and create jobs including $3 billion dollar private-led sector investment in ICT
- Free Primary Healthcare for all Ghanaians
Under the free primary healthcare, every Ghanaian who visits a District Hospital, Polyclinic, Clinic, Health Centre or CHPS compound for health care will be treated for free
- Complete constitutional review process
- Run the leanest government with Sixty (60) Ministers
- Scrap off EX Gratia in its current form
- Discontinue the payment of utility bills, DSTV, fuel etc as part of top government employee’s service benefits
- Tighten legislation to put a cap on debt accumulation and prevent any further reckless borrowing as has been witnessed under this current government
- We shall place an immediate moratorium on all non-concessional borrowing and pursue are bilateral and multilateral partners for more concessional financing and borrowing
- Re-establish the sinking fund to smoothen out our debt-repayment obligations
- Complete the on-going projects instead of rushing to start new ones
- Set up independent value for MONEY office to scrutinize all government procurements above $5 MILLION or as Parliament may decide
- The one million jobs plan will be anchored on the ‘Big Push’, an aggressive infrastructure development for jobs
- The $10 billion investment over five years will stimulate the economy and provide opportunities for businesses to grow, create new entrepreneurs and employ more people
- As part of our industrial policy, we will develop a policies that promote Ghanaian ownership and control of major sectors and encourage “Buy Ghana Agenda”
